SharePoint Wiki Tutorial

Since SharePoint 2007 there is a wiki template available and with SharePoint 2010 there are kind of two wiki templates you can use. One of them is the Team Site and the other one is the Enterprise Wiki.

Here is how you can use the wiki field to create content:

Layout The layout is changed using “Format text > Text Layout” in the ribbon:

The text layout option can’t be enhanced. All content is stored in one column. The layout itself is also put into the column as content.

The enterprise wiki is using the publishing infrastructure meaning that you have publishing pages.
Only content is stored across different columns. The layout is not stored inside columns. It’s stored in page layouts created by developers.

The wiki field is a Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing. WebControls.EmbeddedFormField. The wiki fields are Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing. WebControls.RichHtmlField.
Create a page You can use “Site Actions > New Page” to create a new page.

You can also edit a page and type: [[New Name of Page]]. After saving you can click the link which creates a new page for you.

Create a link You can use brackets to link to content:

You can use | to give it a custom name:

Use the \ to prevent resolving links:

Video and Audio You can’t use Video or audio inside your wiki fields if you don’t have the publishing site collection feature enabled:

Therefore the video and audio web part is not available in SharePoint Foundation 2010.
You need to have the publishing site collection feature enabled:

Rating and metadata Not available in SharePoint Foundation since it requires enterprise features. Available.
