As you may know I have released a tool you can use for SharePoint site provisioning. But what does it mean and how can you use it? During your development process you may need a test environment with lots of data. You can either create this test data by hand or you can use my tool Content Generator 2011 in order save time.

This article shows you the first steps using Content Generator 2011.

Hi,

thanks that much for providing this step by step tutorial.
As I feared, my problems have nothing to with "not understanding" how to use the tool,
but with obviously running into an error when running the tool on my SharePoint Server.

Because I never see any items filled either in the tree nor in the property pane, after successfully connecting to a site.
Yes, I am running the tool "as admin". I can not find any further error messages in the Log-Pane.
Are there additional way to receive a log, maybe a verbose logging, to find the problem on my machine?

thanks that much,
thomas

Ok back again... here are the things which are done while "connecting" to a SharePoint farm:

1. The language(s) are loaded... if an error occurs there will be a message box popping up with an error.

2. The farm ID is loaded which is shown under the statistic pane. Errors should be logged in the log pane too.

3. Icons are associated with the tree (since version 2.1.0.10).

4. After that the default nodes are created... if an error occurs it is logged in the Log tab with the message: "Error creating default nodes."

5. At the end there are UI changes. If an error occurs there will be a log message under the log pane like:
-"Error adding urls to recent urls."
-"Error loading icons from SharePoint using path..."

Can you please check the following:

-You have the English version of SharePoint 2010 installed...
-There is at least the English language listed in the template pane... see here at the bottom right: sharepoint-tutorial.net/image.axd

-The farm ID is listed in the statistic pane...
-There are no errors in the log pane... (as you have already written)

-Can you go to the top menu -> File -> New? Is enabled or disabled? (File -> Open and File -> Save should be enabled too...)

Thank you in advance for checking this... a appreciate your help making the application better.

Andreas

Hi,

I've have the same problem. No items in property or tree pane.
I have no errrors in the log pane. The only installed language is English and I can see the ID the the statistics pane. The items in the File menu are enabled.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Peter

Thanks for the info...

what happens if you click File -> New? This should also create the nodes in the tree.

Thanks for the reply.
When I click File-New I get the same node tree: List, Page, Subsites but with no content.

At the beginning it should be empty as you describe... if a language is shown on the right side you need to select something from the drop down on the right side of the language selector.
This should be either sites, pages or list... only after selecting on of these elements the content is shown in the list view on the top right.

Please see picture 4 in this tutorial... step 2 shows the 2 drop downs which can be used to select the language and the type of content (sites, pages, list...).
