I’m using Windows Server 2008 R2 as the operating system on my laptop and Hyper-V in order to virtualize my SharePoint 2010 development environment.
After a few weeks I got the following error while accessing a file server over the network: 0x000004CF ERROR_NETWORK_UNREACHABLE - The network location cannot be reached. For information about network troubleshooting, see Windows Help.
Unfortunately the error didn’t say why:
The network location cannot be reached. For information about network troubleshooting, see Windows Help.
Digging deeper I also got this error message:
Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found.
Here is the screenshot with the error message:
The reason for this error was the Microsoft 6to4 adapter which was created multiple times in device manager.
To be exact there were about 200 entries of this network adapter which I deleted by hand. You need to enable View > Show hidden devices and you will see the problem.
After removing all the entries and removing the Microsoft 6to4 adapter itself from the list I was able to access a file share.
If you can’t remove the adapter, need a hot fix or if you need additional information you can read the following article: A new Microsoft 6to4 adapter is unexpectedly created after you restart Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
